Summer Snacking

When I was younger, 

my summer holidays were spent in the pool.

I'd say by the pool, but really it was hard to get me out of the pool for more than a minute. 

Because of this my eating always totally changed for the season.

My mum had the mission of trying to get me to eat something in the short time I was out of the pool.

Now that I'm older, I've found my eating habits still change in summer, even though I no longer spend hours as a fish.

Hot, humid weather doesn't make big meals all that appealing and I tend to be a summer snacker instead.

Plus, casual eating suits my casual summer lifestyle perfectly! 

A while ago Healtheries sent me their entire range of  KidsCare snack foods 

which I thought were perfect for summer snacking. 

Rice Wheels are bite sized crunchy rice snacks that are perfect for snacking in their individual packs. 

Not only are they fun, they taste great and are perfect for little kids and big kids alike. 

Rice Wheels come in three flavours - Cheese, Burger and Roast Chicken 

They also satisfy the crunch alot of us crave when it comes to snacks!

Potato Sticks are light, crispy and come in individual packs which are perfect for lunchboxes or snacking on the go. 

They come in three flavours: Roast Potato, Chicken and Salt and Vinegar 

Salt and Vinegar definitely seemed to be the crowd favourite here!

Rice Rounds are very much like a cross between a potato chip and a rice cracker

and are the perfect size for little ones! 

They're delicious on their own but perfect with cheese or dips and other toppings! 

The rice rounds come in two flavours: Original and Cheese and Bacon

We were having a barbeque with friends and our pool was filled with kids bouncing with energy

and then... the hunger monster attacked. dundundun. 

So what did I do? Piece together a summery snack plate, of course! 

Carrot and Cucumber sticks, Watermelon, Rockmelon, Rice Wheels, Potato Sticks and Rice Rounds

made the perfect snack plate which satisfied both the kids and adults.

Dare I say the adults probably enjoyed this more than the kids?

Busy as a bee

Friday already? Now that's what I like to hear!

I've been a busybusy bee this week,

but don't you worry - I've let myself have some time to soak up the sunshine.

So i've said before that i'm a snacker

and it's true. 

If I didn't snack, i'd probably be gnawing my arm off by lunch time. 

I'm not good at the whole "eating 3 large meals" deal.

My stomach can't handle lots of food all at once,

so I'm much happier eating 6 smaller meals. 

A while ago I posted a review of some snacks from Healtheries and I'm back with more! 

 These are more products from their Wiggles range

and yes, I'm eighteen but hey! the Wiggles are as old as me!

So what do you do when you have a bunch of kids snacks to review? 

Well you gather together a bunch of big and little kids to try them!

These fruit fills are made with real fruit and wholegrains

and they taste good enough to fool fussy little ones :P

We decided they'd be a perfect on-the-go or lunch box snack

perfect for busy bees! and not messy to eat!

I knew these Ricey Bites would be a hit when I opened the box of products,

and I was right!

Crunchy and flavoursome, these share packs are a perfect snack!

and they're free of  MSG and artificial colours and flavours.

The cheese flavour was the clear winner out of my taste testers

and the eight share packs quickly disappeared!

 Snacking gets a bad wrap, 

but i'm all for it. 

Maybe I should start a PRACTICE SAFE SNACKING campaign!

or not

the wombats(?) go marching one by one hoorah hoorah!

Recently I was sent some Orgran products to review.

The first on my list were the 'Outback Animal Cookies' in both vanilla and chocolate.

These cookies are:

• gluten free
• wheat free
• dairy free
• egg free
• yeast free
• GMO free
• soy free
• nut free
• vegan 

So they're perfect for people with allergies or those who follow a vegan diet.  

The cookies also have 12.8% dietary fibre.

The cookies are available in two different packs - Loosely boxed or a bag or 8 individually portioned snack packs.

The snack packs, at 22 grams per pack, are perfect for on-the-go snacks or a treat in kids lunch boxes.

The cookies themselves were quite nice, 

personally I prefered the chocolate cookies as they had a richer flavour. 

The vanilla cookies were quite plain, but still enjoyable.

The texture is much different from regular cookies (for instance Tiny Teddies) due to the use of rice and pea flour,

the cookies themselves aren't overly sweet and I'm sure kids would love them.

The individual packs would be great for kids to share with friends who may have allergies, 

or for parent's planning kids birthday parties where guests have intolerances.

Orgran's Outback Animals are found in Health food stores and the health food section of most supermarkets. 

My taste testers and I have given them a 7/10 ratingand agree these would be perfect for people with allergies or those with a strict diet :)

 Today I spent the morning at the Sydney Royal Easter Show's Showbag Launch, 

And so did the kids from The Children's Hospital at Westmead and from Royal Far West 

as well as a whole bunch of mums, dads, grandparents and people from the media.

 

The morning started with a petting zoo for the kids, who were the SRES's official show bag testers.

There were chickens, ducks, calves, lambs, calves, a pony and even a donkey. 

  

 

the event then moved inside where Michael Collins, General manager of the easter show 

revealed the predictions for the top 10 showbags of 2010 

What are the predictions for the top 10 showbags of 2010, I hear you ask?

the stars of some of the show bags even paid a visit

 

 as well as the TMNT and Carebears there was Batman, Freddo and My Little Pony,

the characters played with the kids while they ran around excitedly choosing their showbags.

 

 

from what I saw, the "Showbag testers"were estatic - some overwhelmed by their sheer number of showbags, 

Looking at their mum's and dad's like "can I really have this?!"
